Hann.

Elmshorn, March 21, 2023 – From April 23 to 25, CAPOL will be offering a multifaceted presence at ProSweets Cologne, the international supplier fair for the confectionery and snack industry. ProSweets will be taking place in parallel to ISM, the world’s leading trade fair for this same industry. With its diverse portfolio of natural colors and surface finishes, CAPOL will be demonstrating how manufacturers can develop both natural and visually appealing confectionery products.

Diverse solutions for the confectionery industry
To attract consumers, confectionery products and snacks must be a delight for all the senses. At the same time, consumer demand is increasing when it comes to naturalness and transparency around the ingredients being used. At this year’s ProSweets, CAPOL will demonstrate how to support the “sensory wow” effect with natural solutions from the field of colors, flavors, and surface finishes with expert advice and inspiration at the trade show booth. At ProSweets 2023, the company’s primary focus will be on the visual component of product development.
A patented technology for vibrant, natural food colors
Already widely established as the standard in Europe, natural food colors are also becoming more and more prevalent in the American and Asian confectionery markets. Thanks to VIVAPIGMENTS®, natural color pigments developed by CAPOL, confectionery products as well as baked goods and sweet or savory snacks can shine in vibrant colors – all naturally. By encapsulating natural coloring substances in a rice protein matrix using the patented VIVAPIGMENTS® technology, natural pigments can be created with outstanding stability and opacity. From gums and jellies to pralines and sugar-coated dragées, there are no limits to the applications that can be imagined with VIVAPIGMENTS®.
Natural alternative to titanium dioxide
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is being increasingly criticized for its use as a whitening agent in food. Since August 7, 2022, the use of TiO2 as a food additive – including in the confectionery industry – has been banned in the EU. While the public debate continues, the demand for natural alternatives continues to grow, and not only in Europe.
With one of the latest product developments in the color portfolio, VIVAPIGMENTS® White, CAPOL addresses this need in the area of confectionery production. Based on calcium carbonate encapsulated with rice protein, VIVAPIGMENTS® White is a natural alternative to TiO2.
The product is particularly characterized by its high opacity and is used in such areas as confectionery coatings. In the hard sugar-coating process, VIVAPIGMENTS® White is an excellent choice of whitening agent for the top layer between the dark dragée core and the shiny color layer on the surface – it also provides excellent coverage and is easy to apply.
Shiny expertise made state-of-the art
What would a colorful dragée be without a perfect finish? Based on decades of experience in confectionery surface treatment, CAPOL will be showing its latest developments in the field of glazing, anti-sticking, and sealing agents for the confectionery industry at ProSweets. As part of the product formulation, surface treatment agents must meet the ever-increasing consumer demands on confectionery while retaining their functionality and efficiency when applied.
Today’s consumers are paying more attention than ever to the beneficial effects products can have on their own well-being, health, and the environment. Mindful consumption is a top priority – which is why confectionery that is sustainable, vegetarian or vegan, as well as sugar-reduced or sugar-free, continue to be in vogue. To fulfill these and further requirements from an international customer base, CAPOL continues to optimize and expand its range of individual solutions in the field of confectionery surface finishing.
ProSweets 2023: a “special edition” right where the action is
Unlike in previous years, this year’s ProSweets will take place in April together with the International Sweets and Snacks Fair (ISM) as a one-off “compact and agile special edition.” This special edition of ProSweets Cologne will be held in the central hallway (“Central Boulevard”), i.e., between the exhibition halls of ISM and the adjoining passages between Halls 4 and 5.
Visitors to ISM/ProSweets are invited to learn more about CAPOL’s solutions when it comes to surface treatment and the application of natural colors and flavors in the confectionery industry from April 23 to 25, 2023. CAPOL will be located between Halls 4 and 5 at booth D-009/011.

Munich, 03-08-23 - NocoaⓇ: the world's first completely cocoa-free chocolate, will be present at the ProSweets international trade fair in Cologne. Thanks to its delicious taste and a carbon footprint that is over 90 % lower than conventional chocolate, NocoaⓇ is sure to cause quite a stir.

Planet A Foods produces NocoaⓇ by fermenting oats and sunflower seeds. Dr. Sara Marquart, founder and CTO of the company, describes the production process as follows: "Traditional fermentation of locally grown grains creates a sustainable chocolate alternative without cocoa, made from 100% natural ingredients. NocoaⓇ can be used in a wide range of applications - from chocolate bars to ice cream and chocolate biscuits."
Consumers love the taste of products made with NocoaⓇ. The combination of outstanding chocolate taste and strong sustainability credentials will undoubtedly revolutionize the industry. Thus, NocoaⓇ offers many benefits to confectionary companies:
- over 90 % CO2 reduction compared to conventional chocolate, significantly reducing Scope 3 emissions
- short and robust supply chains without the need for hedging
- “plug & play” compatibility into existing production environments
- competitive cost

"We are very excited," says founder and CEO Dr. Maximilian Marquart, "to showcase NocoaⓇ at ProSweets and invite interested companies to taste our products made with NocoaⓇ. Take the opportunity to experience innovative NocoaⓇ at ProSweets and discover a more sustainable way to make delicious treats."

About NocoaⓇ
NocoaⓇ is a chocolatey indulgence made from regional grains. Developed in 2021 by the "Chocolate Siblings" Dr. Sara Marquart and Dr. Max Marquart, NocoaⓇ is ten times more sustainable than conventional chocolate, but still offers the familiar taste experience and high quality that we know and love. Sustainable production uses oats and sunflower seeds instead of cocoa beans. In a process very similar to brewing beer, the grain is crushed with yeast and then roasted.
This is how NocoaⓇ develops the typical chocolate flavors and even the mouthfeel and texture of chocolate. The yeast is then completely filtered out of the product. In all its flavors, NocoaⓇrequires around 30% less sugar than conventional chocolate, thanks to the natural sweetness of oats. NocoaⓇ is a product and brand of Planet A Foods. With NocoaⓇ, the company is taking the pressure off the chocolate value chain and bringing new value to cocoa as a raw material.

Elmshorn, September 13, 2022 – The world of confectionery is known for its bright colors. For their full radiance to enfold, however, these colors frequently require the participation of a somewhat inconspicuous color: white. Especially when it comes to sugar-panned confectionery, a whitening agent is typically needed as a covering layer between the darker core and the colored coating.

With VIVAPIGMENTS® White, CAPOL is launching a natural whitening agent that meets the special requirements of confectionery manufacturers when it comes to the hard-sugar panning process. These naturally based white pigments can be used as an alternative to the commonly used titanium dioxide (TiO2), which has come under increasing debate as a food additive. VIVAPIGMENTS® White is characterized by its ability to achieve a high level of opacity thanks to a special color technology, as well as its ease of product application.
As an alternative to titanium dioxide, VIVAPIGMENTS® White does more than simply make the application convenient since it can easily be stirred into the sugar solution. Thanks to special rice protein encapsulation technology, the calcium carbonate-based product also provides excellent opacity. This is particularly important for efficient whitening. Depending on the specific application, a dosage of 0.3% to 1.0% can typically be used. “Initial feedback confirms that customers were able to achieve good results in production-scale trials even at a dosage considered low for an alternative whitening agent,” explains Dr. Valeria Reim, CAPOL product manager.
In the European Union, a ban on titanium dioxide as a food additive came into force on August 7, 2022. This new constraint has pushed confectionery manufacturers to change their product formulations. In other world regions, the former number-one whitening agent is now also under debate among manufacturers and consumers alike. “We know from our confectionery customers that natural whitening agents that achieve an excellent whitening effect at an appropriate dosage continue to be in high demand,” adds Dr. Reim.
CAPOL has brought many years of know-how from the confectionery industry to the development and application of VIVAPIGMENTS® White and combined this with its knowledge gained from the unique VIVAPIGMENTS® technology for natural color pigments. The encapsulation of natural colorants in a rice protein matrix is what makes it possible to create natural pigments with exceptional stability as well as color opacity. And thanks to its greater naturalness, it also offers manufacturers an opportunity to follow the clean label trend. “For a consistently natural result in the sugar panning process, we recommend combining VIVAPIGMENTS® White with VIVAPIGMENTS® natural colors, as it opens up a wide range of possibilities for efficient panning with bright color results,” says Dr. Reim.
