About Prof. Dr. Katharina Riehn
Dr. med vet. Katharina Riehn is veterinary specialist for food safety and meat hygiene and since November 2014 Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Public Health (ECVPH), field „Food Science“.
After her graduation at the Free University Berlin 2004 she completed her doctorate there at the institute for food hygiene under Professor Dr. G. Hildebrandt with a dissertation on the bacterial and viral contamination status of Pacific cupped oyster. As a research assistant she also took part at DLG quality tests for the first time. After her activity as a research assistant at the institutes of food hygiene at the Free University Berlin and Leipzig University from 2006 on, she works since 2012 as a Professor for Food Microbiology and -Toxicology in the Department of Ecotrophology, Faculty Life Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences Hamburg. In the course of research she is mainly concerned with aspects of relevance to animal welfare in the field of slaughter and food associated parasitic zoonoses. Another focus is the identification of quality parameters from cocoa and mangos.
