About Prof. Dr. Markus Schmid
Prof. Dr. Markus Schmid is a master butcher and business economist specializing in the craft trades. He studied food technology and food processing at Fulda University and earned his doctorate at the Chair of Food Packaging Technology at the TU of Munich. He headed the research focus “Biopolymers in Paper and Film Applications” at the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging.
Since 2018, he has been a professor at Albstadt-Sigmaringen University in the Faculty of Life Sciences, where he heads the Sustainable Packaging Institute SPI. He has published numerous scientific articles in international journals, is a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals, and has been listed in Stanford University's “World's Top 2% Scientists List” since 2020.
He is also chairman of the DLG Committee on Food Packaging in the Supply Chain, regional group leader of the Association of German Packaging Engineers, and a member of the Baden-Württemberg Promotion Association.
