ProSweets Cologne 2020 presents a complete supplier spectrum: Focus on current technological developments, new trends and future themes

Renowned exhibitors from all product sections are exhibiting at ProSweets Cologne, the international supplier trade fair for the sweets and snacks industry - from 2 to 5 February 2020. The trade fair that is being held parallel to ISM once more, can thus offer a well-positioned supplier, trend and order platform for the sweets and snacks industry again this year. ProSweets Cologne covers the entire demand regarding the themes production, packing and ingredients - from diversified ingredient variations, to innovative packing machines and materials, through to optimised production technologies. As such, in collaboration with ISM the entire value chain is covered. In this way, both suppliers and manufacturers as well as the retail trade are represented. This year's edition is concentrating on themes such as sustainable packing, functional ingredients and multisensory taste experiences as well as modular systems.

The exhibiting companies include for example Döhler, GNT Group, Fuji Packaging, Dumoulin, IMA, Krüger & Salecker, Live-Tech, Maschinenfabrik Seydelmann, Memak Plastik, ULMA Packaging or VEMAG Maschinenbau. Among the new and returnee exhibitors are Handtmann, Mesotronic, Paul Craemer, Prewa, TLM Packaging and Chocolate World. The share of exhibitors from the Machines and Systems section is 53 percent.

Trends and themes
One of the big mega trends of the industry is the theme snacking. In total, 106 exhibitors are presenting their solutions for the production of snacks at ProSweets Cologne. Here, direct synergies to ISM arise, because the leading global trade fair for sweets and snacks is placing a special focus on this theme among others in the Trend Snacks and Natural Snacks sections in Hall 5.2.

In the Packaging section the emphasis lies on less plastic, more renewable raw materials, lower packing weight and recyclability. Due to the digitalisation, the theme product information is also taking on a new standing at the international supplier trade fair for the sweets and snacks industry, which is playing an increasingly bigger role at the point of sale.

In the Ingredients section, the main emphasis is being placed on multisensory taste experiences. The exhibitors are presenting a host of diversified and innovative solutions here based on ingredients that are of natural origin - from aromas, to colouring foodstuffs, through to sweetening solutions.

In this connection, the INGREDIENTS special event offers in-depth insights into the theme reformulation. Here, the focus lies on questions regarding how the sugar, salt and fat content can be reduced without having to compromise the taste experience for the consumers. Furthermore, a new TASTING ZONE is being incorporated into the special event, where a food expert will produce alternative fat, salt and sugar-reduced recipes live.

One-hour guided tours by the German Agricultural Association (DLG) round off the Ingredients programme at the trade fair and provide further insights into the latest developments on the theme reformulation as well as on the legal stipulations.

Beyond this a modern process and packing technology plays a key role in the development of innovative sweets and snacks. Thanks to their modular design, the complete solutions presented at ProSweets Cologne demonstrate how the flexible and fast conversion of different formats and maximum machine efficiency can be achieved.

The decisive aspect of all of these developments it that without the technology, machines and innovative recipes, it would not be possible to keep on presenting trend-oriented products within such short intervals. What's more, the suppliers dispose of important know-how and concrete solutions for new technologies in the scope of the digitalisation, which means in their role as competent partners and consultants they can support the manufacturers.

The Packaging special event precisely picks up on these themes, with sustainability and the digitalisation taking centre stage. The partner Pacoon will present sustainable packing concepts in a "Sustainable Packaging Brain Lab" as well as proposals and concepts for the future based on the classic packaging functions. Beyond this, DeTeMa GmbH will provide information on digital codes such as Digimarc and how these can turn packing into multitalents with the aid of interactive technologies.

In addition, this year the Newcomer Area comprising of six first-time exhibitors at the trade fair, will give visitors the opportunity to get to know new industry players. No matter whether classic, innovative or a trendsetter - here the possibly big companies of tomorrow exhibit at small stands.
